EVA Pharma's team of scientists invested five years in research, received specialized training at Kiel University in Germany, and introduced technology not previously available in the Middle East, including the utilization of an artificial lung particle that ensures optimal particle size distribution of the drug to the target sites of the respiratory airway. Dr. Mohamed Ghobain, King Abdulaziz Medical City Riyadh, and the Saudi Thoracic Society board member said: "While there is a considerable increase of Asthma and COPD awareness among healthcare workers, there is a lack of public awareness regarding the burden of the disease. COPD is a prevalent lung disease that causes restricted airflow and breathing problems. The primary risk factor for the disease is smoking cigarettes or any tobacco products. In the Middle East and Saudi Arabia, environmental factors such as exposure to desert dust and sand, as well as smoke from burning wood, are also known risk factors that significantly contribute to an increased risk of COPD. Other factors include exposure to second-hand smoke, air pollution, childhood respiratory infections, and a family history of asthma.

INDIANAPOLIS, CAIRO&nbsp;— September 4, 2024,&nbsp;Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) and EVA Pharma&nbsp;announced today that the companies have entered into an agreement to expand access to baricitinib to an estimated 20,000 people in 49 low- to middle-income countries in Africa by 2030. Discovered by Incyte and licensed to Lilly, baricitinib is for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, alopecia areata, atopic dermatitis,&nbsp;and COVID-19.
This collaboration is part of the&nbsp;Lilly&nbsp;30x30 initiative, which aims to improve access to quality health care for 30 million people living in resource-limited settings annually by 2030.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 12.0pt; line-height: 18.0pt; mso-line-height-rule: exactly; tab-stops: 3.15in; background: white; mso-background-themecolor: background1; vertical-align: baseline;">"Our commitment to expanding access to affordable and innovative medicines for people living in low- to middle-income countries continues,” said Ilya Yuffa, executive vice president and president of Lilly International. “Following our collaboration with EVA Pharma on insulin manufacturing, we are now establishing the first of its kind voluntary licensing agreement for Lilly, where the company will provide certain baricitinib manufacturing know-how to enable EVA Pharma to manufacture and supply baricitinib to people in 49 countries across Africa.”&nbsp;&nbsp;
“We are proud to localize the entire value chain of this critical medication on the continent, from producing high-potency baricitinib active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), to tackling complex manufacturing challenges.” said Riad Armanious, CEO of EVA Pharma.
EVA Pharma’s dedicated high-containment facility is set to begin sales of the locally manufactured baricitinib by 2026 to various African countries.
This collaboration announced today relies on both EVA’s pan-African reach and its strong local manufacturing capabilities that meet global standards, enabling Lilly to reach more people in low- to middle-income countries.

Since 2021, EVA Pharma has been working with Lilly to ensure a sustainable supply of life-saving medicines across several African countries. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; 26 September 2023--&nbsp;EVA Pharma, one of the fastest-growing pharmaceutical companies in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, signed a contract today with the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, known as MODON, to attain a 50,517 sqm plot of land in Sudair City, for its state-of-the-art research and manufacturing complex in the kingdom.
The plot attained, facilitated by MODON, will house a full-fledged industrial complex that will cater to a diverse spectrum of therapeutic domains with plans to launch over 150 pharmaceutical products spanning biologics, vaccines, immunosuppressants, oncology, and high-potency medications, which require specialized containment technology. With a research &amp; development center at the heart of its industrial complex, EVA Pharma will bring the latest medical advancements closer while helping it respond more accurately to changing patient needs through research and collaboration with local universities and hospitals.
Commenting on the agreement, Engineer Majid bin Rafid Al-Arqobi, CEO of Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones “Modon”, explained; The strategic partnership initiated by Modon with EVA Pharma comes within the framework of its role to localize the medical and pharmaceutical industries in the Kingdom, create an ideal environment attractive to foreign investments, and strengthen the national export system as an important factor for achieving a prosperous economy in line with the objectives of the National Industrial Strategy and the aspirations of the Saudi Vision 2030.
He added that, "Modon" provides innovative products and services that support the national industrial system. The land allocated for investment in 36 industrial cities has risen to about 135.6 million square meters, the developed areas of more than 202 million square meters, and industrial cities have 6,055 factories, including 1,263 ready factories.

In partnership with MODON EVA Pharma to Obtain Over 50,000 sqm of Land for an Industrial Complex Investment in Saudi Arabia

The MOU includes localizing manufacturing at EVA Pharma’s dedicated and internationally accredited immunosuppressant manufacturing facility in 10th of Ramadan city, Egypt as well as the prospect of exporting to emerging markets in Africa.
The official MoU signing event was held at the 2nd edition of the Africa Health Excon and was witnessed by&nbsp; Dr. Awad Tag Eldin, Presidential advisor for health affairs; Major General Dr. Bahaa El Din Ahmed Zeidan, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement; Dr. Tamer Essam, Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority;&nbsp; Prof. Dr. Adel Adawy – Former Minister of Health and Population, Egypt; Mr. Andreas Muller, Regional Area Finance Director Middle East in Roche as well as the Swiss Embassy’s Deputy Head of Mission, Ms. Elisabeth Gilge. The agreement was signed by Dr. Mohamed Swilam, General Manager of Roche Egypt and Dr. Riad Armanious, CEO of EVA Pharma.
This manufacturing localization project will encourage technology transfer and the complicated know-how development of much-needed immunosuppressant&nbsp; medication&nbsp; which is essential to improve the lives of patients who are undergoing organ transplants via a cost-competitive and resilient model, deepening local pharmaceutical production in alignment with the Egyptian government’s priorities. The pharmaceutical industry is a major pillar of Egypt’s economic reform plan in terms of the value of its contribution to GDP and the creation of job opportunities and ultimately supports the achievement of the country’s sustainable development strategy, Egypt's Vision 2030.

CAIRO – May 22, 2023 -- EVA Pharma participated in the 76th World Health Assembly (WHA) side event on the role of local manufacturing in improving access to noncommunicable disease (NCD) medicines. The event, held on May 22nd in Geneva, served as an influential platform to address the paramount issues surrounding medication accessibility. Among the pivotal points emphasized during the panel discussion was the urgent need for streamlining registration processes and implementing harmonized medicines registration systems to minimize delays and ensure swift access to life-saving medications for those in need.

The panel discussion addressed the escalating burden of diabetes mellitus (DM) in Africa, where 24 million adults are currently living with DM according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). With projections estimating that 55 million people in Africa will have diabetes by 2045, the region is facing the largest increase in diabetes rates globally, as highlighted by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Access to affordable insulin remains a key barrier to successful treatment, resulting in unnecessary complications and premature deaths. In response to this critical issue, EVA Pharma started a collaboration with Eli Lilly and Company in December 2022 to expand sustainable access to high-quality, affordable human and analogue insulin and reach annually at least one million people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in 56 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), most of which are in Africa.&nbsp;

INDIANAPOLIS and CAIRO,&nbsp; December 14, 2022 – Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) and EVA Pharma&nbsp; announced today a collaboration to deliver a sustainable supply of high-quality, affordable human and analogue insulin to at least one million people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in low- to middle-income countries (LMICs), most of which are in Africa.
&nbsp;
In a first for Lilly, the company will supply its active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for insulin at a significantly reduced price to EVA Pharma. Lilly will also provide a pro-bono technology transfer to enable EVA Pharma to formulate, fill and finish insulin vials and cartridges – establishing the company as a trusted manufacturer of these lifesaving products in Africa.

EVA Pharma expects to begin distribution of the African-made insulin products within 18 months and to reach one million people per year by 2030. This collaboration is part of the Lilly 30x30 initiative, which aims to improve access to quality healthcare for 30 million people living in limited -resource settings, annually, by 2030
