Cairo, Egypt – June 19, 2026— EVA Pharma welcomed a high-level delegation from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to its integrated manufacturing complex in 6th of October City.
The visit took place on the sidelines of the Global Private Sector Engagement Forum (PSEF), organised by World Health Organization (WHO) through its Product Policies, Access and Manufacturing Support (PAM) Unit and co-convened with the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) of the European Commission under the Global Gateway framework, and funded by the BMZ.
The delegation included Ms. Birgit Pickel, Director General for Sustainable Development and Climate at BMZ and Dr. Anna Lotte Böttcher, Senior Policy Officer for Global Health Policy and Financing at BMZ. The visit highlighted EVA Pharma’s role as a strategic African hub for advancing local pharmaceutical manufacturing, technology transfer from global companies, and sustainable access of life-saving medicines. Moreover, it reflected the shared priorities between African countries and international development partners, aiming to strengthening health systems and long-term health security.
During the visit, the delegation toured EVA Pharma’s advanced production facilities and was briefed on the company’s fully integrated end-to-end manufacturing capabilities. The delegation toured the whole complex with a focus on the sterile manufacturing facility which stands as a testament to the company’s ongoing mission to expand access to lenacapavir across Africa and 120 countries worldwide with high HIV incidence and limited resources, reinforcing its commitment to improving equitable access to innovative HIV treatments, as announced in 2024.
Moreover, the delegation visited EVA Pharma’s mRNA Innovation Hub, a key pillar of the company’s long-term commitment to next-generation vaccine development in Africa. Since becoming operational in January, 2025, the platform has been advancing toward a fully integrated mRNA manufacturing capability, with a planned annual capacity of up to 100 million vials. This initiative contributes to continental efforts to expand local vaccine production, supporting Africa CDC’s target of manufacturing 60% of vaccines locally by 2040, while strengthening pandemic preparedness and accelerating technology transfer across the region.
Discussions also explored the critical role of localized manufacturing in building resilient health systems, creating skilled employment opportunities, and supporting sustainable economic development across Africa. “We are honored to welcome the BMZ and GIZ delegation to our manufacturing facilities, and we believe that healthcare sovereignty in Africa begins with building strong local capabilities, supported by global collaborations” said Bishoy Faltas, Sub-Sahara Africa Commercial Manager at EVA Pharma. “We continue to expand our footprint in equitable access to high-quality healthcare solutions as well as life saving medicines to African patients.”
