Gavi and MedAccess Leaders Visit EVA Pharma's Vaccine and mRNA Manufacturing Complex to Explore Pathways for Regional Health Security and Sustainable Vaccine Access

19 June, 2026

Cairo, Egypt – 19th June 2026 – EVA Pharma welcomed senior leadership team from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and MedAccess to its state-of-the-art manufacturing complex in 6th of October City, reinforcing a shared commitment to expanding sustainable vaccine manufacturing capacity and strengthening access to life-saving health technologies across Africa and emerging markets.

The visit brought together Dominic Hein, Director of Market Shaping at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, David Kinder, Director, Development Finance at Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance and Dan Mouat, Investment Manager at MedAccess, alongside EVA Pharma's leadership team for strategic discussions focused on regional manufacturing resilience, vaccine access, market sustainability, and innovative partnership models.

The visit showcased EVA Pharma's growing vaccine and advanced biologics manufacturing capabilities, including its investments in next-generation mRNA technologies, which are designed to support regional health security, outbreak preparedness, and equitable access to innovative vaccines.

"As Africa continues to strengthen its healthcare sovereignty, regional manufacturing capabilities must be supported not only through technology and infrastructure, but also through sustainable demand visibility and long-term market pathways," said Peter Makram, , R&D Manager of EVA Pharma’s mRNA Innovation Hub, Board director, AVMI. "We were honored to host Gavi and MedAccess and explore opportunities to align manufacturing excellence with long-term access and public health impact."

A key focus of the discussions was the role of market-shaping mechanisms in supporting the development of regional manufacturing ecosystems. Through Gavi's expertise in vaccine markets and supplier development, participants explored how local manufacturing capacity can be connected to future demand, procurement pathways, and sustainable market participation.

Through its work at the intersection of finance and global health, MedAccess brings valuable experience in designing solutions that reduce market barriers and support the availability of critical medical products in Low-to-Middle Incomes (LMICs).

“Regional manufacturing is critical to long-term health security, reducing reliance on volatile global supply chains and strengthening countries’ resilience to future pandemics and supply shocks,” said Dan Mouat, Investment Manager at MedAccess. “Innovative finance tools that match the needs of African manufacturers will play a vital role in helping to build sustainable markets that deliver timely and equitable access to health products for people in the region.”

EVA Pharma also presented its expanding mRNA innovation platform, including recent collaborations aimed at establishing end-to-end RNA-based vaccine and therapeutic manufacturing capabilities in Africa. These initiatives are intended to contribute to pandemic preparedness, technology transfer, and regional self-sufficiency in vaccine production. EVA Pharma’s mRNA Innovation Hub in Africa is poised to make a transformative impact on the continent’s healthcare and economic resilience. Since the research and development lab became operational in Jan 2025, EVA Pharma has been on track to establish a fully functional and end-to-end mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility, with an anticipated annual capacity of 100 million vials. This initiative aligns with the Africa CDC’s goal of meeting 60% of the continent’s vaccine needs locally by 2040, which addresses a critical gap, as Africa currently produces less than 1% of its vaccines. By enhancing Africa’s ability to develop and manufacture vaccines locally, EVA Pharma supports health systems’ resilience and public health security, while also aligning with the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA) initiative, which was launched by Gavi in June 2024. In addition to human vaccines, EVA Pharma showcased its dedicated veterinary vaccines manufacturing platform, designed to produce more than 1.2 billion doses annually, supporting a One Health approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and animal health.

The visit underscores a shared vision among global health partners to strengthen regional manufacturing capabilities, foster innovation, and improve access to high-quality vaccines and biologics for populations across Africa and beyond.
