
Cairo, Egypt- 18 May 2025 - In line with the Arab medical community's commitment to raising awareness about liver diseases, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Unified Corporation for Liver, Digestive, and Infectious Diseases (UCHID) and the Saudi Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and Transplantation (SASLT). This agreement includes organizing continuing medical education (CME) lectures for doctors and healthcare professionals, launching joint community awareness campaigns, and other volunteer activities to enhance awareness of liver diseases.
Activating this agreement and under the sponsorship of EVA Pharma, the first series of CME lectures in the Arab and Middle East region, accredited by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), was launched. This initiative came after an in-depth discussion on fatty liver disease, which poses a growing health challenge in the region.
Dr. Maysa Abdullah, Chairwoman of the Unified Corporation for Liver, Digestive, and Infectious Diseases (UCHID), stated: "In Egypt and the region, we need increased medical awareness. Therefore, this agreement aims to raise awareness of liver diseases, particularly fatty liver, in the Arab world and the Middle East by providing continuing medical education opportunities in collaboration with leading professors of gastroenterology and hepatology in Egypt and worldwide."
In a press statement today, Dr. Faisal Aba AlKhail, Chairman of the Saudi Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and Transplantation, said, "We believe knowledge is power, and through our partnership with leading medical entities and associations, we will provide the medical community with a series of continuing medical education services as well as community awareness programs on liver diseases."
Dr. Shady Michel, Virology, Hepatology, and Ophthalmology Franchise Manager at EVA Pharma, emphasized the company's pioneering role in supporting research and advanced treatments for liver diseases, stating: "At EVA Pharma, we recognize the challenges faced by patients and doctors in treating liver diseases, especially fatty liver, which has become increasingly prevalent. Therefore, we are committed to raising awareness and promoting continuous medical training in collaboration with prominent local and international institutions."
Dr. Shady Michel added: "This initiative is an extension of our role as a leader in liver disease treatment since the company provided treatments for viral hepatitis C, contributing to controlling and eliminating the disease in Egypt. These lectures are part of our strategy to enhance healthcare and provide innovative treatment solutions." He noted that the company is working on developing new treatments to improve patients' lives.
It is worth mentioning that this initiative has received widespread support from medical circles, as it enhances doctors' efficiency and unifies efforts to combat liver diseases in the region.
